Rates change and nothing is guaranteed.

The printed pay range is on the posting; read it before the first call.

Company

Lowest printed sales band, USD

Highest printed sales band, USD

How commission is shown

OpenAI

$108,000 to $160,000, Account Associate SF

$400,000 to $445,000, Business Development Lead, Life Sciences, posted 20 October 2026

A tag reading Offers Commission on some listings; base and commission ranges listed separately on a few

Anthropic

$116,480 to $131,040, Business Development Representative

$550,000 to $700,000, Head of National Security Sales and Head of State and Local Government Sales, posted 24 August 2026

The posting says the sales range is on target earnings, base plus commission target

Cohere

$135,000 to $215,000, Senior Sales Operations Specialist, New York

$560,000 to $675,000, VP of Sales, Public Sector, Toronto, posted 15 October 2026

Equity flagged; commission not shown in the feed

Perplexity

$75,000 to $120,000, Business Development Representative

$380,000 to $450,000, Enterprise Sales Manager, New York, posted 8 October 2026

Offers Commission tag on the seller roles, base shown separately

Scale AI

$115,200 to $144,000, Program Manager, Sales Enablement

$207,200 to $259,000, Enterprise Account Executive, three listings

Not stated in the range

xAI

$65,000 to $145,000, Client Account Manager

$200,000 to $280,000, Director of Growth Marketing and Sales Enablement

Not stated in the range

Two cautions the table cannot carry. An on target figure, the Anthropic kind, is base plus the commission paid at full quota, so the base sits below the printed floor. And a range such as $176,000 to $350,000 with a Multiple Ranges tag, which OpenAI prints on several Account Director roles, means the company has not said which band the seat is in. The highest paying AI jobs page applies the same as listed rule across every AI title.

What do the ranking articles get wrong about AI sales jobs?

They invent the jobs. The top results for this query on 21 October 2026 were two vendor blogs, one from Bliro dated 20 February 2025 that lists AI Sales Strategist, AI Sales Operations Manager, AI Customer Success Manager and AI Sales Analyst, and one from AI Frontdesk dated 4 November 2025 that adds AI Powered Sales Operations Specialist and Generative AI Content Creator for Sales, says the pay is six figures, and cites some reports for a growth figure. Neither prints a sourced pay band. We searched all 168 titles on the six boards, and the 177 on Harvey, ElevenLabs, Sierra and Cursor read the same morning, for those phrases. Zero matches. The job that sells the AI is called Account Executive, the same as it was called when the product was accounting software.

The honest version of the listicle would say: the title is ordinary, the employer is the part that changed, and the pay is printed on the posting under a state law, so read the posting. That is a shorter article, which may be why nobody writes it.

What do people who applied for these roles actually report?

We read three threads through the public Reddit route on 21 October 2026, 57 comments on a r/techsales question from 5 May 2026 by a Salesforce solutions engineer who wanted to become an AE at OpenAI or Anthropic, seven on an r/InterviewStories post from 7 August 2026 about non technical interviews at Anthropic, and the first two pages of a r/HENRYUK thread from 15 October 2026 asking how people got frontier lab jobs. These are what people report, not evidence, and nobody is identified beyond a username.

What applicants report, dated and linked, sits beside the postings.

The pattern across all three is the referral. A commenter on r/techsales who says they work in go to market at one of the two labs wrote that you need someone who will advocate internally, not just submit a CV, that hiring had shifted to a short list of feeder companies, naming AWS, Google, Meta, Databricks, Snowflake, Retool and Salesforce, and that six or seven former colleagues they referred got no interview. On r/HENRYUK in October 2026 the accounts were 10 to 13 interview rounds, a referral described as close to a necessity, and one person who waited a year while the role sat on hold.

The accounts that cut against it matter as much. One r/techsales commenter applied to OpenAI cold, got an interview, and went out at the hiring manager screen. On r/HENRYUK one reached a third round at Anthropic from the open website form before the role was filled. On r/InterviewStories a reply laid out the non technical sequence as recruiter screen, hiring manager chat, a loop, and sometimes a take home or case, and an applicant in September 2026 reported five days of silence after the recruiter screen.

One claim contradicts the postings, so it is labelled here. A commenter wrote that the two labs pay no commission and the job is purely a stock option play. Anthropic’s Business Development Representative posting states the printed range is on target earnings including the commission target, and OpenAI tags several seller roles Offers Commission. The listing text wins; the claim is unverified. Where the accounts agree with the postings is the experience bar: the listings ask for two or more years, and the accounts say the practical bar is higher.

How do you apply without wasting a month?

Read the feed, not the listicle. The six boards above are public and carry the posting date, so you can see that the Perplexity BDR listing first published on 22 January is nine months old while an OpenAI Account Associate seat in Dublin went up on 24 September. Apply to the junior titles that match your years, read the printed range before the first call, and spend the saved time finding one person at the company who will say your name in a meeting, which is the single thing every thread agreed on.

If you do not have the two years yet, the labs are the wrong first door. The free public board at getaiwork.com/board/ carried 1,684 screened live listings on 20 October 2026 per the stats page, 222 of them tagged beginner and 521 remote, and the no experience page sorts the ones that genuinely ask for none. For the labs with a contractor route beside the full time board, the Cohere careers page walks through one. And if you want the short answer on which route fits you, the match quiz takes two minutes and asks about experience, not money.

Frequently asked questions

Do AI sales jobs require a technical background?

Not on the postings read 21 October 2026.
