Type AI into Amazon’s own job site and it returns more than 6,000 results, because the search is generous and matches the word anywhere in a posting, not just in the title. So on 29 October 2026 we read the site’s search feed directly, ran 26 queries, collected 6,371 unique postings and kept only the ones with an AI term in the title itself: AI, machine learning, ML, generative AI, LLM, AGI, agentic, or a scientist title.

That left 1,351. The two rounds together come to about 30,000.

Date

What was announced

Source

28 Oct 2025

About 14,000 corporate roles cut, hiring continues in some areas

Amazon

28 Jan 2026

About 16,000 more roles cut, most US staff offered 90 days to find an internal role

Amazon

Jul 2026

Cuts in the AGI organisation discussed by employees; unverified, no Amazon statement found

forum thread

Oct 2026

Fewer than 1,000 roles, mainly in the Stores division, as reported

news report, 8 Oct 2026

29 October 2026

1,351 AI titled postings live on amazon.jobs

amazon.jobs

The October 2026 figure comes from a news report of 8 October 2026 citing a person familiar with the matter, not from an Amazon post, so read it as reported. The July 2026 cuts in the AGI group, the team behind Amazon’s Nova models, appear in employee discussion and in one forum post that mentions reports, but we could not confirm them at a primary source, so they stay unverified here. What the numbers do show is that the cuts landed mostly on corporate roles in general, and the new postings are mostly for scientists and engineers. Those are rarely the same people, which is why a layoff headline and a hiring page can both be true on the same morning.

What do people offered Amazon data operations roles report?

Because the data roles are the only ones open to non specialists, we read what applicants said about them. We read three threads on the r/amazonemployees forum from July to October 2026, about 16 posts and replies in all. These are what people report, not facts Amazon has confirmed.

In a July 2026 thread, a 2025 computer science graduate in India described an interview for Associate, ML Data Operations, GO-AI. They said the recruiter called it a six month work from home contract with rotational shifts and Excel tasks, and asked them to show a government ID on camera. Replies the same week described the role as entry level annotation work. One said the shift is labelling images and audio for hours, another that targets are set by average handling time. One reply cut the other way: if you need a job, it is better than nothing. One guessed at the pay and said they could be wrong; Amazon’s India postings list no pay, so we print no figure.

Applicants on a forum describe the India data operations roles as repetitive annotation shifts.

In an October 2026 thread, an applicant onboarding for job ID 10388366 said the posting described a nine hour shift in the Hyderabad office, yet the onboarding portal showed a virtual location. A second applicant for the same ID reported the same, and on 12 October the first confirmed it was virtual. The live posting now reads Hyderabad, Virtual, so the forum and the listing agree.

Where they disagree is the contract. Applicants describe a six month contract; the amazon.jobs feed lists the schedule as full time. Both can be true, since a fixed term role can still be full time, but ask the recruiter in writing. On the work itself the forum and Amazon agree: the posting says annotation and process, not programming, and that is exactly what the replies describe.

How do you apply for an Amazon AI job?

Only through amazon.jobs or a recruiter writing from an Amazon address, and the forum applicant above confirmed theirs came that way. Search by title family rather than by the word AI, filter by country, and read the basic qualifications first, because they are strict: a scientist role that says PhD means it. Some postings stay up for months: 24 of the 1,351 we counted dated from before 2026.

On the free getAIwork board, which screens AI job listings and is open to anyone without signup, the crawl on 29 October 2026 found 6 of 1,717 live listings under an Amazon employer name: two US engineering roles and four in India, including a Machine Learning Data Associate role. Amazon is a small slice of where non technical AI work sits.
