This article does: a sample of live board listings tagged automation, read on the day, next to the board’s own skill family counts from stats.json.

What counts as an AI automation job on the board right now?

On 30 September 2026 the board carried 423 listings tagged automation, out of 1,670 live listings total and 43,693 screened since launch. That makes automation the third largest skill family, behind AI data work (642) and writing (508), and ahead of voice and video work (56) and image work (41).

The listings under that tag are not one job. They range from a working student internship doing procurement automation to a founding AI engineer role, with “AI automation specialist,” “automation engineer” and “AI operations engineer” all sitting in the same bucket. The tag describes the work’s subject, not its seniority, which is the first thing a generic salary chart gets wrong by averaging all of it together.

What do live automation listings actually ask for?

We read 12 live board listings tagged automation on 30 September 2026. Course pages sell “no code automation” as a tool skill: learn n8n, Zapier or Make and you are hireable. None of the 12 named any of those three tools. One named a tool at all, and it was Meta Ads, on a marketing role that automation was a side feature of rather than the job itself. The rest asked for “AI automation” as a subject area and left the toolset to the employer’s own stack, which is a very different hiring bar than a weekend course implies.

Paying close attention to specific requirements helps your application stand out.

Title, as listed

Level

Pay, as listed

AI Automation Engineer (ECOZA GmbH)

Intermediate

€5,000 gross/month

Automation & AI Operations Engineer (ECOZA GmbH)

Intermediate

€5,000 gross/month

Senior AI Engineer, Construction Tech (Right Search)

Advanced

€80,000 to €100,000/year

Paid Social Manager, Meta Ads (SF Marketing Agency)

Intermediate

$1,100 to $1,200/month

AI Automation Specialist (BLP Digital AG)

Intermediate

Not listed

AI Inference Engineer QVAC (ITRex Group)

Intermediate

Not listed

Business Analyst, AI Automation (Omnora GmbH)

Intermediate

Not listed

Founding AI Engineer (Omnora GmbH)

Advanced

Not listed

Working Student, AI Automation, Procurement (Quantum-Systems GmbH)

Beginner

Not listed

Praktikant Business Building & AI Automation (Talentspring Academy)

Beginner

Not listed

Data Science & ML Engineer (encontec GmbH)

Advanced

Not listed

HR AI and Automation Lead (Stark)

Advanced

Not listed

Our sample skews European and mostly German, which is where our search turned up listings that day, so treat the pattern as directional rather than a national statistic. Within it, three levels of seniority appear (beginner, intermediate, advanced), yet all twelve are filed under the board’s “part-time or junior role” format regardless of what the title actually says, including a Founding AI Engineer post and a Senior AI Engineer post. That is a labelling quirk of the board’s own taxonomy worth knowing before you filter by format rather than reading the title. Only three of twelve listings gave any pay figure at all. A course page that promises one salary number for “automation jobs” is describing a job that, on this evidence, does not exist as a single thing. If you want a faster read on which kind of AI role actually fits your background before you spend an evening on one listing, the two-minute match quiz sorts that in advance.

Filtering the board’s automation tag by format on the same day confirms the pattern holds beyond our 12: of more than fifty automation listings checked that way, nearly all carried the board’s “part-time or junior role” tag, with a handful instead marked “AI training platform” and none marked freelance. If you are filtering the board by format to find automation work, filter by the skill tag first and read the title, because the format field will not sort seniority for you.

What do automation roles pay, as listed?

Course and salary-guide pages quote a tidy band. One widely shared guide puts US no-code automation pay at roughly $65,000 to $130,000 a year, rising with “tool depth.” A specific posting we found through Welcome to the Jungle for a Paris-based no-code automation engineer, naming n8n, Make and Zapier directly, asked for more than four years of experience against a €45,000 to €75,000 band, below the guide’s own floor.

The three pay figures we found on the board sit on both sides of that story: a €5,000 gross monthly rate at an intermediate level (roughly €60,000 a year before tax), a €80,000 to €100,000 range for a senior construction-tech engineering role, and $1,100 to $1,200 a month for a part-time marketing role where automation was one duty among several. Nine of twelve listed nothing. The board’s wider pay-by-background data, which covers the whole site rather than automation alone, puts coding and software roles at a median $187,200 a year and $90 an hour, which is a reasonable proxy ceiling for the engineering end of this family but says nothing about the internships and operations roles at the other end.

Pay here depends far more on whether the role is an entry internship, a generalist operations job or a senior engineering position than on anything a single “automation” salary chart can capture. Treat any number you read, including ours, as a report of what one listing said on one day, not a market rate.

How does automation compare with the board’s other skill families?

Automation’s 423 listings sit well behind AI data work (642) and writing (508), and far ahead of voice and video (56) and image work (41). Across the whole board, part-time or junior-classified roles outnumber everything else at 973 listings, AI training platform work accounts for 606, and freelance gigs for 91. Experience skews advanced: 1,020 listings ask for advanced-level experience against 393 intermediate and 257 beginner, and onsite roles (1,054) outnumber remote ones (616).

Set against that backdrop, automation looks less like a beginner entry point than data annotation or rating work, which we cover in our comparison of data annotation platforms, and more like a mixed bag that happens to share a tag. Readers coming from zero experience usually do better starting there, or with the no-experience routes in AI training jobs with no experience, and treating automation listings as a category to watch once they have a specific tool or language behind them.

Live board listings by skill tag, 30 September 2026. Of twelve live board listings we read on 30 September 2026, nine gave no pay figure, one listed roughly 60,000 euro a year, one listed 80,000 to 100,000 euro a year for a senior engineering post, and one listed 1,100 to 1,200 dollars a month for a part time marketing role. There is no single rate.

Do I need to know n8n, Zapier or Make to get hired for AI automation jobs?

Not necessarily. None of the twelve listings we read named those three tools specifically; most asked for AI automation as a subject area and left the toolset to the employer’s own stack. A posting that does name a no code tool, like the Paris listing we found on Welcome to the Jungle, usually also asks for several years of experience.

Are AI automation jobs remote?

Not by default.
