What Is UHRS? Microsoft’s Labeling Platform Explained

What Is UHRS? | getAIwork

UHRS is Microsoft’s own crowdsourcing platform for data labeling, and you can only reach it through a vendor partner like Clickworker. The thing nobody tells you first: UHRS earnings are held for exactly 39 days before they become payable, and outside the US, Canada and Mexico Clickworker keeps 4 percent for currency conversion. Both figures are published by Clickworker itself.

Key facts, checked September 24, 2026

  • 39 days. Clickworker publishes this on three separate help pages, most recently updated March 13, 2026
  • Work this week, paid in five weeks. Clickworker publishes the lag table in exactly those terms
  • 4 percent kept on UHRS earnings for everyone outside the US, Canada and Mexico
  • 80 percent to pass the two-part UHRS assessment, and “you cannot repeat it”
  • 8 hour sessions. UHRS access is disabled automatically after eight straight hours
  • Microsoft accepts no payment responsibility. Its terms send every pay question to your vendor

What is UHRS, in Microsoft’s own words?

UHRS is the Universal Human Relevance System. It is Microsoft’s internal crowdsourcing infrastructure for getting humans to label, rate and check data that trains and evaluates its AI systems. Microsoft states it on its own UHRS terms of service page:

“UHRS is Microsoft Corporation’s crowdsourcing platform that supports data labeling for various AI application scenarios. Our vendor partners connect us with people, who we refer to as ‘judges’, to provide responses to tasks called HITApps.”

Two pieces of vocabulary you will see everywhere once you are inside. A judge is a worker. A HITApp is a task type, and each one has its own rate. Microsoft also notes that all judges are under NDA.

The structurally important sentence in the same document is the next one, and it explains most of what people complain about online:

“You are subject to the terms of your agreement with the vendor partner and must work directly with them for any concerns related to payments or access.”

Microsoft owns the platform and accepts no obligation to pay you. Your money relationship is entirely with the vendor who let you in. That is why the 39-day hold and the 4 percent deduction below appear on no Microsoft page anywhere: they are vendor-layer terms, and a worker reading only Microsoft’s documentation would never learn about either one.

How do you actually get access to UHRS?

Not directly. There is no public “apply to UHRS” form and Microsoft publishes no route in. You join a vendor partner, and the vendor grants you access. These are the routes we could verify from the vendors’ own pages on September 24, 2026:

Vendor What it publishes about UHRS Pay detail published
Clickworker A full help centre section: qualification, sign-in, session limits, payment timing, currency deduction Extensive. The best source anywhere
CrowdGen by Appen A dedicated UHRS page. Sign in with the same Microsoft ID you registered with. “Complete UHRS tasks only in your country of residence” “Each HITapp comes with its own pay rate, which is readily visible on the platform”. No thresholds
OneForma by Pactera EDGE “UHRS appears in the Work Platforms area of Tasks”. Open it only from the OneForma route provided None

Mindrift is not a UHRS vendor. It is owned by Toloka AI BV and publishes no UHRS connection, despite frequently appearing on lists that claim otherwise.

Clickworker’s own description of the relationship is refreshingly blunt: UHRS is “a separate website that offers, similar to clickworker, micro jobs. Cooperation between UHRS and clickworker has made it possible for our registered users to access exclusive UHRS jobs. Invoicing and payment will be made to the Clickworker account. Please note that clickworker has no influence on the work load and type of projects that are available on UHRS.”

That last clause is the one to remember. Your vendor cannot get you more UHRS work. They control access and payment; Microsoft controls whether there is anything to do.

The UHRS assessment is one shot

Clickworker publishes the qualification requirements, and they are stricter than most people expect:

  • Two parts. The first tests English with simple questions. You must pass it at 80 percent or better to reach the second part
  • The second part introduces UHRS and sets up your account
  • 80 percent overall is the threshold for access
  • “Make sure to take the test when you can fully concentrate on the task, as you cannot repeat it.” Clickworker’s own wording. There is no retake
  • Your payment details must be verified first. Clickworker lists this as a prerequisite for the UHRS job to appear at all
  • Some native languages need separate verification through a “Verify your native language” job
Practical advice, and this is the part worth acting on. Do not take the UHRS assessment the evening you sign up, on a phone, half watching something. It is an hour of your attention and you get exactly one of them. Verify your payment details first, because the job will not appear otherwise and people waste days wondering why. Clickworker is not alone in running one-shot gates: DataAnnotation publishes “You can only take the Starter Assessment once. There are no retakes or second chances.” This is becoming the norm in the category.

How UHRS payment actually works, and why it takes five weeks

This is the section that does not exist anywhere else, so here is the whole chain as Clickworker publishes it.

  1. You complete a HITApp. It appears in “My Report” within about twenty minutes
  2. The following week, usually Monday or Tuesday, the Sunday to Saturday earnings are credited to your Clickworker balance as manual bonus payments, one per HITApp you worked on
  3. Then it takes exactly 39 days to be added to your payable amount
  4. After 39 days the amount becomes payable on a Wednesday morning and is included in the bill run that starts the same day
  5. PayPal and Payoneer appear within 72 hours of the bill run completing. SEPA transfers are initiated between Wednesday and Friday and take 1 to 2 business days

Clickworker then publishes the resulting schedule in plain English, which is the single most useful thing any vendor in this category has written down:

Work done on UHRS Paid
5 weeks ago this week
4 weeks ago next week
3 weeks ago in 2 weeks
2 weeks ago in 3 weeks
1 week ago in 4 weeks
this week in 5 weeks

Why 39 days?

Clickworker says so directly: “During those 39 days, UHRS has the chance to quality check your work and give us feedback if necessary. This includes a right to reject fraudulent work, which will then be deducted from the account balance.”

So it is a clawback window rather than a processing delay. Money in your Clickworker balance during those 39 days is not yet yours in any meaningful sense. The same help centre confirms the contrast: standard Clickworker jobs clear in 7 to 30 days, and UHRS takes 39.

Once it is payable, Clickworker’s ordinary thresholds apply, and these are refreshingly exact:

Method Minimum payable Where
PayPal €10 Multiple countries. Must be KYC verified and able to receive euros
SEPA €10 EU countries. 3 to 5 business days
ACH $10 The USA. Personal accounts only
Payoneer €20 or $20 Multiple countries
Direct bank transfer €20 A few non-EU countries. Must allow SWIFT. 5 to 7 business days

Clickworker help centre, article updated March 12, 2026. Balances below the minimum are carried over. Clickworker also names eWallet and Airtm in its bill run articles but publishes no threshold for either.

You do not request a payout. The bill run starts every Wednesday and picks up anything payable, provided your tax details are entered.

The 4 percent nobody mentions

Clickworker publishes this and, as far as we can tell, no third-party article about UHRS does:

“For workers from the US, Canada, and Mexico, the answer is yes. You will get 100% of what you earn on UHRS directly transferred to your clickworker account. For all other countries, the answer is no. When we transfer money earned on UHRS by non-US Clickworkers to their clickworker accounts, we have to convert this money from US-Dollar into Euro. Our bank charges a transaction fee for each transaction made. To cover those costs, we keep 4% of each credited amount.“

Four percent is not enormous, and the explanation is plausible. But it is a real cut on every UHRS dollar you earn from outside three countries, it compounds with the 39-day wait, and it is not visible on the rate you see attached to a HITApp. If you are comparing UHRS against another platform on published rates, deduct it before you compare.

The rules that get UHRS accounts closed

Microsoft’s terms and Clickworker’s help centre are consistent on these, and the consequences are account-level rather than warning-level.

  • One account, one vendor. Microsoft: “You are allowed to register only one account.” Clickworker: using UHRS through a second vendor “can lead to the permanent suspension of your UHRS access and all vendor accounts connected to you”
  • Nobody else may use your account. Microsoft prohibits allowing others to perform tasks on your behalf
  • No scripts or bots, unless a task explicitly permits them
  • Work from your registered country. CrowdGen: “Complete UHRS tasks only in your country of residence. Do not log in from abroad.” Clickworker warns that logging in from elsewhere “will flag your account as suspicious”
  • Do not register with a different country if yours is closed. Clickworker: “our system will detect the irregularities and suspend your account”
  • Microsoft may tell your vendor. Its terms state: “We may report breaches to your employer to take appropriate action”

Clickworker also closes registration in countries where it has enough workers or expects little volume, and it is upfront about the payment constraint: “If you cannot be paid via one of these methods, please do not register.” Neither Microsoft nor Clickworker publishes a list of eligible countries.

Is UHRS worth doing?

It is a reasonable second queue and a bad primary one, and where you live changes the answer more than anything else. In the US, Canada or Mexico you keep the full amount and only pay the 39-day wait. Everywhere else you take a 4 percent haircut on top of it. The work itself is genuine micro-task volume from a company that is not going anywhere, which is more than can be said for several platforms in this category.

Three things we would do differently knowing all this in advance. Verify payment details before touching the assessment, because the job does not appear otherwise. Treat the assessment as a single scheduled hour rather than something to fit around a Tuesday evening. And plan your first five weeks on UHRS as unpaid, because they mechanically are, and the people who get discouraged and quit are almost always the ones who did not know the lag existed.

Frequently asked questions

What is UHRS?

UHRS stands for Universal Human Relevance System. In Microsoft’s own words on its terms of service page, it is ‘Microsoft Corporation’s crowdsourcing platform that supports data labeling for various AI application scenarios.’ Workers on it are called judges, and tasks are called HITApps. You cannot join Microsoft directly; you reach UHRS through a vendor partner such as Clickworker, OneForma or CrowdGen.

How long does UHRS take to pay?

Through Clickworker, 39 days after the earnings are entered on your account, and Clickworker publishes the resulting lag in plain language: work done on UHRS this week is paid in five weeks. Earnings from Sunday to Saturday are credited the following Monday or Tuesday, then become payable 39 days later on a Wednesday morning, and go out in that week’s bill run.

Why does UHRS hold money for 39 days?

Clickworker publishes the reason: ‘During those 39 days, UHRS has the chance to quality check your work and give us feedback if necessary. This includes a right to reject fraudulent work, which will then be deducted from the account balance.’ So the hold is a clawback window, not a processing delay.

Do you get 100 percent of UHRS earnings?

Only if you are in the United States, Canada or Mexico. Clickworker states that for everyone else it converts US dollars to euros, its bank charges a transaction fee, and ‘to cover those costs, we keep 4% of each credited amount.’ That 4 percent is published by Clickworker and appears on no Microsoft page.

How do you qualify for UHRS?

Through your vendor. Clickworker publishes the requirements: pass a two-part UHRS assessment at 80 percent or better, verify your payment details first, and for some native languages complete a separate language verification job. Clickworker also states plainly that ‘you cannot repeat it’, so the assessment is one shot.

Can you use UHRS through two vendors at once?

No. Clickworker states this ‘can lead to the permanent suspension of your UHRS access and all vendor accounts connected to you’, and asks people not to register via Clickworker if they already hold an active UHRS account elsewhere. Microsoft’s own terms allow only one account per person.

How long can you stay logged into UHRS?

Eight hours. Clickworker publishes that ‘access to UHRS is only granted for a period of 8 hours straight’, after which access is automatically disabled and you refresh it by logging in again through your Clickworker account.

Is UHRS worth it?

It depends entirely on your country and your patience. If you are in the US, Canada or Mexico you keep the full amount and only wait out the 39 days. Everywhere else you lose 4 percent to currency conversion and wait the same five weeks. It suits people who want a steady side queue rather than income they need this month.
