What does a TELUS Online Data Analyst actually do?
The job title sounds like spreadsheets and dashboards. It is not. An Online Data Analyst at TELUS Digital spends the day checking information about places: is this business really at this address, does this road name match the local spelling, is this search result the thing a person in this town would actually want. TELUS hires for the role through its AI Community job board, which is a separate door from TELUS Digital’s ordinary staff careers.
The postings describe the work in the same few lines in every language we read. The Urdu (India) posting, created on August 5, 2026, says the project aims to improve the content and quality of digital maps used by people around the world, and that the tasks are research and evaluation in a web based tool: verifying data, comparing it, and judging whether information is relevant and accurate. The Odia version says the same thing in translation. Both ask for someone who enjoys research, pays attention to detail and knows national and local geography well.
So the skill being tested is not data analysis in the university sense. It is careful looking things up, then following a long rulebook about how to record what you found. If you have ever argued with a map app about where a shop really is, you already have the temperament.
Who can apply for the Online Data Analyst role?
Eligibility is set per posting, and the posting is set per country and language. The US English version is the one most guides quote, and it was not visible in TELUS’s own feed when we read it from India on October 7, 2026, because the feed filters what it shows by the reader’s location. Its text, as indexed by search engines from the job sites that carried it, asks for full professional proficiency in English, residence in the United States for the last five consecutive years, familiarity with current and historical US business, media, sport, news, social media and cultural affairs, and daily access to a broadband connection and a computer. We could not open a live copy of that posting on the day, so treat those details as the last published version rather than a confirmed current one.
The Indian language postings that were live on October 7 name a language and a country instead: Odia (India) and Urdu (India), each marked freelance and remote. Neither one printed a residency period in the text we read. Every version we saw states that no previous professional experience is needed, which is why this role turns up on so many lists of AI training jobs that take beginners.
| What the requirement covers | US English posting (last indexed text) | India language postings (live October 7, 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Language | Full professional proficiency in English | Odia or Urdu, named in the title |
| Residency | Lived in the US for the last 5 consecutive years | Country named (India); no period stated in the text |
| Local knowledge | Current and historical US business, media, sport, news and culture | Good knowledge of national and local geography |
| Experience | None required | None stated |
| Equipment | Daily broadband, computer and relevant software | Not stated in the text |
| Listed pay | None in the indexed text | None listed on either posting |
| Source | Search index copies; the live posting could not be opened | TELUS AI Community board |
If you are not sure whether rater style work or another route fits your background better, the two minute match quiz sorts the options by what you have already done, which beats sorting them by whichever advert shouted loudest.
Before you apply: the posting’s own requirements
Tick each one that is true for you. It restates what the posting asks for and nothing more.
This checklist restates the posting. It does not predict whether you will pass the exam or receive tasks, and it says nothing about pay.
How does the TELUS qualification exam work?
This is the part people actually search for, and the posting is clearer about it than most guides. The US text says that to be hired into the programme you take an open book qualification exam that decides whether you are suitable, and you complete ID verification. TELUS provides guidelines and learning materials before the exam, and you must finish it within a set timeframe, but at a time that suits you. There is no interview in that description.
Open book does not mean easy. The guidelines are the exam: you read the rules for judging a map result, then apply them to real looking tasks. Glassdoor’s interview snippets, as search engines show them, describe a manual to study, then a batch of 30 to 40 tasks to grade over a few days, and one mentions needing a score over 80 percent. TELUS does not publish a pass mark, so read that number as one applicant’s report, not a rule.
A sensible order is the dull one. Read the guidelines once end to end, then again with the exam open beside them, and look up the rule every time you hesitate. Open book only helps if the book is actually open.

Which Online Data Analyst postings are open right now?
We read TELUS’s own job feed on October 7, 2026. It returned 127 open postings for a reader in India. Two carried the Online Data Analyst title, both for Indian languages, and three more were close cousins in the search and ads rating family. The table lists them exactly as the feed did, with the creation date it gives for each.
| Posting on TELUS’s feed | Country or language | Created | Listed rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Online Data Analyst Odia (IN) B | India, Odia | Aug 6, 2026 | None listed |
| Online Data Analyst Urdu (IN) B | India, Urdu | Aug 5, 2026 | None listed |
| Personalized Internet Assessor, Hindi (IN) | India, Hindi | Sep 9, 2026 | Text says an estimated 3.50 USD an hour, paid per task |
| Personalized Internet Ads Assessor, Malay (MY) | Global listing, Malay | Sep 17, 2026 | None listed |
| Hindi Speech and Audio AI Specialist | India, Hindi | Sep 28, 2026 | 5 to 15 USD an hour, as listed |
Two things stand out. The Online Data Analyst postings are the oldest of the group, created in early August and last edited on September 2, while TELUS’s newer postings lean towards speech, translation and subject experts. And of all 127 postings, 105 showed a listed rate and 22 did not; both Online Data Analyst postings sit in the 22. Our earlier TELUS International AI review found the same gap on September 10.
What does TELUS list as pay for an Online Data Analyst?
Nothing, on the postings themselves. Neither Online Data Analyst listing on TELUS’s feed on October 7, 2026 carried a rate, and the US text indexed from job sites carried none either. The closest figure TELUS publishes is on a neighbouring role: its Hindi Personalized Internet Assessor posting says the estimated hourly earnings are 3.50 USD, paid per completed task. That is TELUS’s own estimate for a different role in one country on one date. Rates change, and nothing here is a promise of any income.
Which brings us to the advert that quotes a confident hourly figure for this exact job with no source and no date. If TELUS itself will not print a number on the posting, a blog that does is guessing, and a course selling a certificate to help you earn it is guessing with a checkout page. Pay figures elsewhere on this site follow the same rule as this one: as listed, by a named source, on a stated date. Our guide to AI rater jobs lists the platforms that do publish a rate.
What do applicants report about the exam and onboarding?
We read what applicants say in two places that show dates. Glassdoor’s Online Data Analyst interview page, updated August 30, 2026, holds 30 interview ratings. It scores the difficulty at 2.5 out of 5, and 95 percent of those applicants say they applied online. The full reviews sit behind a sign in, which we did not use, so we read only the summary figures and the review snippets search engines show. Those snippets describe the same shape: a manual, a graded batch of tasks over a few days, and contact by email only, with no phone or video call. Treat them as a handful of undated accounts, not a count.
The second place is less flattering. Trustpilot’s page for telusinternational.ai showed a TrustScore of 1.8 from just 14 reviews when we read it on October 7, 2026. One reviewer, writing on October 15, 2025, reports a 60 minute assessment, onboarding spread across several dashboards, work stopped partway through a project, and a payment dispute over completed tasks. That is one person’s account; we could not verify it and it is not a finding about TELUS. Fourteen reviews is also a small sample for a community TELUS says has more than a million contributors.
Where the accounts agree with the posting is the process: guidelines first, an exam with a deadline, no interview. What the posting leaves out, and the Trustpilot account raises, is what happens after you pass, which no public source we read could confirm either way. If you are weighing a similar role elsewhere, our piece on Welocalize’s ads quality rater role reads that company’s own listings the same way.
How do you spot a fake TELUS Online Data Analyst offer?
TELUS hires Online Data Analysts through its AI Community site and the exam, not through a chat. So a message on Telegram or WhatsApp from a recruiter offering this job, often with a generous hourly rate and a link to someone’s personal number, is not following TELUS’s own process, whatever logo sits in the profile picture. The same goes for anyone asking you to pay for training, equipment or a certificate first.

The FTC’s guidance on job scams is plain on the point: a job that asks you to pay to get the job is a scam. Check that the role exists on TELUS’s AI Community board before you reply to anyone, and if you want to compare it with other open work first, our free work board is public with no signup; it listed 1,651 live listings, 531 of them on AI training platforms, in its update of October 6, 2026.
Before you pick a platform at all, the match quiz is a faster way to see whether rater work, data training or a different route suits your background, and our data annotation platforms comparison sets TELUS beside the others.
Frequently asked questions
Is the TELUS Online Data Analyst job real?
Yes. TELUS Digital lists Online Data Analyst postings on its own AI Community job board; two were live on October 7, 2026, for Odia and Urdu speakers in India. Offers that arrive by chat app with no posting behind them are a different matter.
Do I need a degree or experience to become an Online Data Analyst?
No. Every version of the posting we read says no previous professional experience is required. What you do need is to meet the language and residency rules for your country and pass the qualification exam.
How long is the TELUS Online Data Analyst exam?
TELUS does not publish a length. The posting says you finish it within a set timeframe at a time that suits you, and applicants on Glassdoor describe having a few days to complete it.
Can I retake the TELUS qualification exam if I fail?
TELUS does not say on the postings we read. Applicants report mixed experiences, so treat the first attempt as the one that counts and read the guidelines fully before starting.
Is Online Data Analyst the same as TELUS’s old search rater job?
They are close cousins. Both judge information for search and map products, but the Online Data Analyst posting focuses on map data while the Personalized Internet Assessor role rates search results and ads.
Where do I apply for the Online Data Analyst role?
Only through TELUS Digital’s AI Community site at telusinternational.ai. The postings shown there depend on your location, so you see the versions open in your country.
