AI nursing jobs are contract roles where registered nurses review, grade and annotate AI answers about patient care. On October 8, 2026, the vendor job boards we read listed RN postings from Mercor at $55 to $80 an hour as listed, and one from Meridial at $6 to $65, most asking for an active licence and recent bedside work.

What are AI nursing jobs, and what does the work involve?
Strip away the futuristic adverts and the job is chart review with a twist. A model writes something clinical: a nursing assessment, a triage answer, a summary of a patient record. A nurse reads it and decides whether it is accurate, safe and complete, then writes down exactly where it went wrong so the next version does better.
Mercor’s RN Annotators posting describes the work as annotation, clinical review, model evaluation and investigating user feedback, plus helping write the guidelines other reviewers follow. Meridial’s Registered Nurse AI trainer posting puts it more bluntly: you challenge the model on topics like medication administration, infection control and clinical decision making, and document every failure mode you find. In other words, the skill being bought is the one you already use at handover, spotting what is missing before it hurts someone.
None of these postings is a nursing job in the licensed sense. Nobody touches a patient, and every one we read is an independent contractor role, not employment with benefits. If you want the general picture of how this kind of work is structured first, our guide to what the AI trainer title means on real postings covers it across fields.
Which companies list RN postings on their own job boards?
We read the job boards themselves on October 8, 2026, not the aggregators that copy them. Every row below is taken from the vendor’s own posting, with the date or posting age it showed that day. Rates are as listed by the vendor, they change from project to project, and none of them is promised to any applicant.
| Posting (vendor’s own board) | Listed rate | Licence and experience asked for | Status on Oct 8, 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mercor: RN Annotators | $55 to $65 an hour, as listed | Able to practise in the US; recent inpatient bedside RN experience; at least 10 hours a week | Open; posted about Sep 19, 2026 |
| Mercor: Adult Inpatient Nurses (RN) | $55 to $65 an hour, as listed | Active US RN licence, outside California; recent adult acute care inpatient experience | Closed; posted about Aug 2026 |
| Mercor: Registered Nurses (Data labelling and training) | $60 to $80 an hour, as listed | Active RN licence; 3 to 5 or more years of clinical nursing | Closed; posted about Jul 2026 |
| Meridial: Registered Nurse, Freelance AI Trainer | $6 to $65 an hour, as listed, set by experience and location | RN licence and a nursing degree described as ideal; clinical experience preferred | Open; first published Oct 9, 2025, updated Sep 9, 2026 |
| Scale AI: Medical Fellow, Human Frontier Collective (US) | No rate listed | MD or DO with board certification; nurses are not in the stated eligibility | Open; first published Jul 30, 2025 |
Two names that turn up in search results did not make the table. micro1 has a Nursing Specialist page, but it rendered with a title and no details when we read it, so its rate is unverified; one search snippet quoted $25 to $40 an hour, and we could not confirm that on the page. A Registered Nurse Expert role credited to AfterQuery appears on several job aggregators, but AfterQuery’s own careers board listed 39 roles on October 8, 2026, none of them for nurses, so we treat that listing as unverified too.

What do the RN postings require from a nurse?
Three requirements come up again and again, and they are stricter than the adverts suggest.
First, the licence. Mercor’s adult inpatient posting asked for an active US RN licence and excluded California by name. The RN Annotators posting asks that you are US based or able to practise in the US. The Meridial posting calls a licence and a nursing degree “ideal” rather than mandatory, which is a softer line than any Mercor row.
Second, recency. Mercor wants recent inpatient bedside experience, and the adult inpatient posting spelled out acute care, ideally in a non procedural specialty. A nurse who moved into case management a decade ago may find the screen narrower than their CV.
Third, time. RN Annotators sets a minimum of 10 hours a week. Scale’s fellowship, which is for physicians, describes 10 to 40 hour weeks for an estimated six months. What no posting asks for is a certificate in AI. If a course is selling an AI nursing credential as the key to these roles, it is selling a key to a door the vendors left unlocked.
Not sure this is the right lane at all? The two minute match quiz sorts rater work, data training and expert roles by your background, nursing included.
Which posting fits my licence?
Pick the line closest to your credentials. The answer restates the requirements in the table above; it says nothing about what you would be paid.
Requirements as listed on the vendors’ boards on October 8, 2026. Postings change; always read the live posting.
What pay do the AI nursing postings list?
Only what the vendors print, with the date. On October 8, 2026, Mercor listed $55 to $65 an hour on RN Annotators, $55 to $65 on its adult inpatient posting and $60 to $80 on its earlier data labelling posting. Meridial listed $6 to $65 an hour, with the exact rate decided after it reviews your experience, expertise and location. Scale listed no rate on its medical fellowship.
For context from our own board, the getAIwork stats feed updated on October 8, 2026 showed 143 live listings in the licensed profession group, with a median listed rate of $140 an hour. That group mixes doctors, lawyers and other licensed experts with nurses, so it is not a nursing figure, and it describes what was listed, not what anyone was paid.
Two details matter more than the headline number. Mercor’s postings say contractors are paid weekly through Stripe or Wise. Meridial’s says you supply your own secure computer and fast internet, and that benefits such as health insurance and paid time off do not apply. Our note on 1099 contractor paperwork covers how contractor arrangements like these are set up.

Can a nurse outside the United States apply?
Mostly not, for the US rows. Every Mercor RN posting we read was tied to US practice, and Mercor said it could not support H1B or STEM OPT candidates. Scale’s fellowship asks for authorisation to work in the United States, with no visa sponsorship.
The exception is Meridial, whose posting is listed as worldwide remote. Its pay line is also the reason its range starts at $6: the rate depends on location, so a nurse in India and a nurse in Ohio reading the same advert should not expect the same number. For nurses in India, that makes the posting itself, not a recruiter’s message, the only place to check what is on offer.
Which brings us to the Telegram recruiter hiring nurses for a famous AI lab. He has never once been on a vendor’s job board. The FTC’s job scam guidance is plain that a job which asks you to pay to get the job is a scam, and every real posting in our table can be found on the vendor’s own site in under a minute.

What do nurses who applied actually report?
We read four Reddit threads from January to July 2026, about 120 comments in all, looking for nurses who had applied or worked on these projects. Direct accounts were rare; most of the talk was opinion. This is what people reported, and it is testimony, not evidence of what any company pays or does.
In a January 2026 r/mercor_ai thread, a paediatric intensive care nurse with 11 years of experience said they were declined after the interview and given no reason. A reply from an account flagged as Mercor staff said declines are not always about ability and that the AI interview can usually be retaken up to three times. Mercor’s own application guide confirms the no feedback part, “due to the high volume of applications being processed”, and that only your most recent attempt counts, but it does not print the number three.
In a July 2026 r/nursing thread asking whether these postings were legitimate, an emergency nurse said friends who were nurse practitioners and doctors had received Mercor offers, and reported that the rate on later projects fell to around $22 an hour. That is one second hand account, unverified, but it matches a point worth knowing: a listed range belongs to a project, not to you. In the same thread a nursing student described a medical terminology project at a startup with sporadic payouts.
A February 2026 r/Remotenursing post came from a contractor sharing Mercor referral links, which is worth noticing because referral posts are enthusiastic by design; a reply confirmed weekly payment through Stripe. And the largest thread, an April 2026 r/nursing discussion with 173 votes, was mostly nurses uneasy about training systems that might one day be sold to their employers. That unease is a real part of the decision, and no posting addresses it.
Where the accounts agree with the vendors: no feedback, weekly pay, contractor terms. Where they add something the postings leave out: rates move between projects, and screening rejects experienced nurses without saying why.
How do you apply without wasting an interview?
Mercor’s guide says the AI interview is “the standard and only method for screening candidates”, and asks you to use Chrome on a desktop with camera and microphone working. If you pass an assessment once, you do not repeat it for comparable roles, so the first serious attempt carries weight. Read the posting’s duties line by line, match each one to a real shift you have worked, and name your specialty and certifications plainly on your profile.
Then check the source before you share anything. A real posting lives on the vendor’s own board; a real vendor does not ask you to pay for training or equipment; and a rate that sounds astonishing is worth comparing with the table above. Our Mercor interview guide walks through the screening in detail, and the Mercor review covers how payouts work. If Mercor is not hiring in your specialty, the Scale AI careers page breakdown shows what its expert routes ask for.
You can also browse current healthcare and expert listings on our free work board, which is public with no signup, and if you would rather be pointed at the routes that fit a clinical background, the match quiz for paid training work does that in two minutes.
Frequently asked questions
Do AI nursing jobs require an active RN licence?
Every Mercor RN posting we read on October 8, 2026 did, tied to US practice. Meridial’s worldwide posting called a licence ideal rather than required, and Scale’s medical fellowship is for doctors, not nurses.
Can LPNs or nursing students apply for these roles?
None of the postings we read invited LPNs or students. Each asked for RN credentials or, in Scale’s case, an MD or DO. Check each posting’s own requirements, because they vary by project.
Is a California RN licence accepted?
Mercor’s Adult Inpatient Nurses posting asked for an active US RN licence outside California. Its RN Annotators posting asked only that you can practise in the US. Read the licence line on each posting.
Are AI nursing jobs full time?
No posting we read offered employment. They are independent contractor roles, with Mercor’s RN Annotators asking for at least 10 hours a week and projects that can be extended, shortened or ended early.
Do I need an AI certificate to get hired?
No. None of the five postings in our table mentions an AI certificate. They ask for the licence, recent clinical experience and clear written reasoning.
How do I know an AI nurse job offer is real?
Find the same role on the vendor’s own job board before replying. Offers that arrive by chat app, or that ask you to pay for anything first, do not follow the process these vendors use.
