Amazon AI Jobs: The Openings Counted Beside the Cuts

A woman searches for amazon ai jobs on her laptop at a sunlit wooden kitchen table.

Amazon AI jobs are plentiful but mostly technical: on 29 October 2026 amazon.jobs carried 1,351 postings with an AI term in the title, 520 of them for scientists, while only 24 were data work roles and none of those was in the United States. They sit beside roughly 30,000 corporate cuts announced since October 2025.

Think you already know this? Five questions, one minute.

Every answer is on this page. Answer from what you know now; the page fills in the rest.

  1. 1. Which job family had the most AI titled postings on amazon.jobs on 29 October 2026?

  2. 2. How many of Amazon’s data work postings were in the United States on 29 October 2026?

  3. 3. What base salary range did the Applied Scientist posting in Bellevue or Seattle list?

  4. 4. How many corporate roles did Amazon say its January 2026 round would affect?

  5. 5. What did applicants onboarding for job ID 10388366 report about the location?

How many AI jobs does Amazon have open right now?

More than the headlines about layoffs would suggest, and fewer than a search for the word AI would. Type AI into Amazon’s own job site and it returns more than 6,000 results, because the search is generous and matches the word anywhere in a posting, not just in the title. So on 29 October 2026 we read the site’s search feed directly, ran 26 queries, collected 6,371 unique postings and kept only the ones with an AI term in the title itself: AI, machine learning, ML, generative AI, LLM, AGI, agentic, or a scientist title.

That left 1,351. We sorted each by what the job is, not by the buzzword in it.

Managers, product and program17013212Senior Product Manager, AI
Data work (data associates, quality specialists)2405AI Data Associate, Dutch

Two things stand out. The scientists outnumber everyone, which matches how Amazon describes its AI team page, a page that lists teams and research areas but no counts. And the board is fresh: 372 of the 1,351 were posted on or after 1 October 2026, while only 24 date from before 2026. A count like this is a snapshot of one day, so treat it as a shape rather than a promise of openings tomorrow.

If you are not sure which of these families fits you, the free AI work match quiz sorts readers by background in about a minute, and it is honest about the ones that need a degree.

Can you get Amazon AI work without a tech background?

Yes, but the door is narrow and it is not where the adverts say it is. The data work family is the only one that does not ask for a technical degree, and it had 24 postings worldwide on 29 October 2026. Eight were in London and eight in the Netherlands, mostly for Amazon’s Artificial General Intelligence Data Services group, and most of them want a second language. The AI Data Associate (Dutch) posting asks for an associate’s degree or related work experience plus C1 level Dutch and English. A Data Quality Specialist posting for Swedish asks for fluent Swedish and one year in quality assurance.

Amazon’s data work postings are salaried roles with language requirements, not phone tasks.

India had five. The Associate, ML Data Operations posting asks only for a bachelor’s degree, and its work is watching videos of items being stowed in a fulfilment centre and judging what happened. The Associate II posting, job ID 10388366, describes itself as “a non-technical operational role” doing annotation for language model training. Both are listed as virtual, in Hyderabad, Mumbai or Bangalore. The fifth, ML Data Associate III for AWS Quick, wants three years of AI or data experience and an engineering or linguistics degree, so it is not a first job.

The United States had none. Readers who arrive hoping for a remote Amazon role labelling data from home in Ohio will find the feed full of PhDs. The nearest thing, Amazon Mechanical Turk, is gone: its homepage says “Mechanical Turk is no longer available” and that it closed on September 30, 2026. Any message offering Amazon AI work from your phone for a registration fee is therefore not from Amazon, whatever logo it borrowed. None of the Amazon postings we read asked for any fee.

What pay does Amazon list for its AI roles?

In what we read, only the US postings printed pay, as a base salary range by city. The India and European data roles we read listed none. Here is what four US job pages listed on 29 October 2026, as listed. Amazon’s own wording on each is that final pay depends on experience, qualifications and location, and nothing here is a guarantee.

US posting, read 29 October 2026PostedCityBase salary range as listed
Applied Scientist14 Oct 2026Bellevue or Seattle, WA$142,800 to $193,200 a year
Senior Product Manager, AI28 Oct 2026Bellevue, WA$136,000 to $184,100 a year
Senior Product Manager, AI28 Oct 2026New York, NY$152,200 to $206,000 a year
Global AI Alliance Manager28 Oct 2026San Francisco, CA$193,700 to $262,000 a year
Sr Software Development Manager, Compute AI Services28 Oct 2026Santa Clara, CA$253,100 to $342,300 a year

These are senior or specialist roles, and the applied scientist posting alone asks for a PhD, or a master’s plus four years, and three years of building models. If you want the same comparison across other employers, our page on the highest paying AI jobs, with pay only as listed uses the same rule.

How do the openings sit beside the job cuts?

Awkwardly, and Amazon says so itself. In its post of 28 October 2025 Amazon described “an overall reduction in our corporate workforce of approximately 14,000 roles” while also “hiring in others”. Its post of 28 January 2026 added cuts affecting “approximately 16,000 roles” and said it would “continue hiring and investing in strategic areas”. The two rounds together come to about 30,000.

The October 2026 figure comes from a news report of 8 October 2026 citing a person familiar with the matter, not from an Amazon post, so read it as reported. The July 2026 cuts in the AGI group, the team behind Amazon’s Nova models, appear in employee discussion and in one forum post that mentions reports, but we could not confirm them at a primary source, so they stay unverified here. What the numbers do show is that the cuts landed mostly on corporate roles in general, and the new postings are mostly for scientists and engineers. Those are rarely the same people, which is why a layoff headline and a hiring page can both be true on the same morning.

What do people offered Amazon data operations roles report?

Because the data roles are the only ones open to non specialists, we read what applicants said about them. We read three threads on the r/amazonemployees forum from July to October 2026, about 16 posts and replies in all. These are what people report, not facts Amazon has confirmed.

In a July 2026 thread, a 2025 computer science graduate in India described an interview for Associate, ML Data Operations, GO-AI. They said the recruiter called it a six month work from home contract with rotational shifts and Excel tasks, and asked them to show a government ID on camera. Replies the same week described the role as entry level annotation work. One said the shift is labelling images and audio for hours, another that targets are set by average handling time. One reply cut the other way: if you need a job, it is better than nothing. One guessed at the pay and said they could be wrong; Amazon’s India postings list no pay, so we print no figure.

Applicants on a forum describe the India data operations roles as repetitive annotation shifts.

In an October 2026 thread, an applicant onboarding for job ID 10388366 said the posting described a nine hour shift in the Hyderabad office, yet the onboarding portal showed a virtual location. A second applicant for the same ID reported the same, and on 12 October the first confirmed it was virtual. The live posting now reads Hyderabad, Virtual, so the forum and the listing agree.

Where they disagree is the contract. Applicants describe a six month contract; the amazon.jobs feed lists the schedule as full time. Both can be true, since a fixed term role can still be full time, but ask the recruiter in writing. On the work itself the forum and Amazon agree: the posting says annotation and process, not programming, and that is exactly what the replies describe.

How do you apply for an Amazon AI job?

Only through amazon.jobs or a recruiter writing from an Amazon address, and the forum applicant above confirmed theirs came that way. Search by title family rather than by the word AI, filter by country, and read the basic qualifications first, because they are strict: a scientist role that says PhD means it. Some postings stay up for months: 24 of the 1,351 we counted dated from before 2026.

On the free getAIwork board, which screens AI job listings and is open to anyone without signup, the crawl on 29 October 2026 found 6 of 1,717 live listings under an Amazon employer name: two US engineering roles and four in India, including a Machine Learning Data Associate role. Amazon is a small slice of where non technical AI work sits. Our pages on RLHF jobs and who hires for them and what Meta’s own board lists after its cuts cover the rest of that ground, and the DeepMind count shows the same scientist heavy shape at another lab.

If you want a shortlist of roles that fit a non technical background rather than a PhD, the data trainer match quiz is the quickest way to get one.
