AI sales jobs are the largest non technical block on the AI labs’ own boards. Counted on 21 October 2026, OpenAI, Anthropic, Cohere, Perplexity, Scale AI and xAI listed 168 sales titles, 83 with a pay range printed, and 12 junior titles. Every junior listing asks for prior sales experience, so the way in is non technical, not no experience.

1. By the title rule used on this page, how many sales titles did the six boards list on 21 October 2026?
168 sales titles across 2,211 open roles, 83 of them with a pay range printed, counted from Anthropic’s Greenhouse board and the Ashby boards of OpenAI, Cohere and Perplexity plus the Greenhouse boards of Scale AI and xAI. Read the section
-
2. What did every one of the twelve junior listings ask for?
None asked for a technical degree and none mentioned a certificate. Anthropic’s Business Development Representative posting asks for 2 to 3 or more years at a startup or in finance, consulting or software, and OpenAI’s Account Associate seat asks for 2 to 6 or more years in sales. Read the section
-
3. Why do the San Francisco listings print a pay range while the Delhi and Tokyo ones do not?
The Labor Commissioner’s pay transparency FAQ explains Labor Code section 432.3: employers with 15 or more employees must include the pay scale in the posting itself. Seats outside such laws usually print nothing. Read the section
-
4. How many of the 168 titles used a listicle phrase such as AI Sales Strategist or AI Sales Analyst?
The phrases come from vendor blogs such as Bliro’s list dated February 2025. Not one of the 168 titles on the six boards, or the 177 on four more, used them; the real titles are Account Executive, Account Director and Business Development Representative. Read the section

5. Which claim from the forum threads did the postings themselves contradict?
A commenter on r/techsales wrote that the labs pay no commission. Anthropic’s posting says its sales range is on target earnings including the commission target, and OpenAI tags seller roles Offers Commission, so the claim is unverified. Read the section
How many AI sales jobs are open on the AI companies’ own boards?
More than the research jobs, which is the part nobody expects. On 21 October 2026 we read the six companies’ own job board feeds and kept every title containing sales, account executive, account associate, account director, account manager, business development, BDR or SDR, throwing out anything that also said engineer, architect, scientist, research or technical. That rule gives 168 titles across 2,211 open roles. The rule matters because a loose one that keeps solutions engineers and customer success roughly doubles the number, and that is how listicles arrive at figures nobody can check.
| Company, own board | Open roles | Sales titles | Junior titles | India listings | Print a pay range |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| OpenAI, Ashby | 808 | 59 | 7 | 3 | 19 |
| Anthropic, Greenhouse | 675 | 74 | 1 | 1 | 41 |
| Cohere, Ashby | 116 | 18 | 3 | 0 | 8 in USD |
| Perplexity, Ashby | 133 | 8 | 1 | 0 | 8 |
| Scale AI, Greenhouse | 178 | 4 | 0 | 0 | 4 |
| xAI, Greenhouse | 301 | 5 | 0 | 0 | 3 |
Anthropic’s 74 is a bigger share of a smaller board, and the same count on 25 September found sales already its largest function, which the Anthropic jobs page here recorded at the time. OpenAI’s Go To Market department held 144 postings when the OpenAI careers page counted it on 26 September 2026 and 149 on 21 October, so the picture has barely moved in a month.

Which AI sales jobs are open to someone without a technical background?
Twelve of the 168, and the word to notice in each of them is experience. The junior titles are Account Associate at OpenAI, Business Development Representative at Anthropic, Cohere and Perplexity, and nothing at Scale AI or xAI. None asks for a degree in computer science. Every one asks for time already spent selling or in a client facing job. The lab wants someone who has carried a quota somewhere smaller and now wants a harder product; it is not running a school.
| Junior listing, read 21 October 2026 | Where | Experience the posting asks for | Pay as printed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Account Associate, OpenAI | San Francisco, hybrid three days; six more in Dublin, Singapore and Tokyo | 2 to 6 or more years in enterprise sales or client facing finance or consulting | $108,000 to $160,000 plus equity, posted 30 September 2026 |
| Business Development Representative, Anthropic | San Francisco or New York, in office at least 25 percent | 2 to 3 or more years at a fast growing startup, or in finance, consulting or software | $116,480 to $131,040 on target earnings, posted 19 August 2026 |
| Business Development Representative, Cohere | Toronto; two more in Dubai and the UK without a printed range | 2 or more years in business development or sales; 40 or more outbound calls a day | CA$115,000 to CA$170,000 plus equity, posted 2 September 2026 |
| Business Development Representative, Perplexity | San Francisco | 9 months to two years in SaaS sales development listed as nice to have | $75,000 to $120,000 base plus commission and equity, posted 22 January 2026 |
Outside the six, Cursor listed four Sales Development Representative roles with no range printed, and Harvey eight, with its Dublin postings at $79,600 to $107,600 for a German speaker. Language is the quiet second door: the Dublin and Singapore associate seats at OpenAI ask for German, French or Korean. The four India listings on 21 October were all senior, three OpenAI Account Director roles in Delhi or remote and one Anthropic Enterprise Account Executive for banking in Mumbai, none with a printed range. If you are not sure whether a sales background points you at these boards or at the screened listings on this site, the two minute match quiz sorts that by experience and location, and it never asks about money.
Before you apply to a junior AI sales listing
The junior table above, as a checklist. Tick each line against the posting you have open.
Restates the junior listings table on this page. Nothing here estimates or projects pay; the only figures are the ones printed on the postings.
What do the listings pay, as printed, and why do only some print a number?
The range is on the posting because a law put it there, which is also why the India, Singapore and Tokyo listings print nothing. California’s Labor Code section 432.3 requires an employer with 15 or more employees to include the pay scale in any job posting, and the Labor Commissioner’s FAQ says the scale must sit in the posting itself and must include commission where it is part of pay. So the figures below are what the law made the company print for a US seat, read on 21 October 2026, and nothing here is an offer, an average or a prediction. Rates change and nothing is guaranteed.

| Company | Lowest printed sales band, USD | Highest printed sales band, USD | How commission is shown |
|---|---|---|---|
| OpenAI | $108,000 to $160,000, Account Associate SF | $400,000 to $445,000, Business Development Lead, Life Sciences, posted 20 October 2026 | A tag reading Offers Commission on some listings; base and commission ranges listed separately on a few |
| Anthropic | $116,480 to $131,040, Business Development Representative | $550,000 to $700,000, Head of National Security Sales and Head of State and Local Government Sales, posted 24 August 2026 | The posting says the sales range is on target earnings, base plus commission target |
| Cohere | $135,000 to $215,000, Senior Sales Operations Specialist, New York | $560,000 to $675,000, VP of Sales, Public Sector, Toronto, posted 15 October 2026 | Equity flagged; commission not shown in the feed |
| Perplexity | $75,000 to $120,000, Business Development Representative | $380,000 to $450,000, Enterprise Sales Manager, New York, posted 8 October 2026 | Offers Commission tag on the seller roles, base shown separately |
| Scale AI | $115,200 to $144,000, Program Manager, Sales Enablement | $207,200 to $259,000, Enterprise Account Executive, three listings | Not stated in the range |
| xAI | $65,000 to $145,000, Client Account Manager | $200,000 to $280,000, Director of Growth Marketing and Sales Enablement | Not stated in the range |
Two cautions the table cannot carry. An on target figure, the Anthropic kind, is base plus the commission paid at full quota, so the base sits below the printed floor. And a range such as $176,000 to $350,000 with a Multiple Ranges tag, which OpenAI prints on several Account Director roles, means the company has not said which band the seat is in. The highest paying AI jobs page applies the same as listed rule across every AI title.
What do the ranking articles get wrong about AI sales jobs?
They invent the jobs. The top results for this query on 21 October 2026 were two vendor blogs, one from Bliro dated 20 February 2025 that lists AI Sales Strategist, AI Sales Operations Manager, AI Customer Success Manager and AI Sales Analyst, and one from AI Frontdesk dated 4 November 2025 that adds AI Powered Sales Operations Specialist and Generative AI Content Creator for Sales, says the pay is six figures, and cites some reports for a growth figure. Neither prints a sourced pay band. We searched all 168 titles on the six boards, and the 177 on Harvey, ElevenLabs, Sierra and Cursor read the same morning, for those phrases. Zero matches. The job that sells the AI is called Account Executive, the same as it was called when the product was accounting software.
The honest version of the listicle would say: the title is ordinary, the employer is the part that changed, and the pay is printed on the posting under a state law, so read the posting. That is a shorter article, which may be why nobody writes it.
What do people who applied for these roles actually report?
We read three threads through the public Reddit route on 21 October 2026, 57 comments on a r/techsales question from 5 May 2026 by a Salesforce solutions engineer who wanted to become an AE at OpenAI or Anthropic, seven on an r/InterviewStories post from 7 August 2026 about non technical interviews at Anthropic, and the first two pages of a r/HENRYUK thread from 15 October 2026 asking how people got frontier lab jobs. These are what people report, not evidence, and nobody is identified beyond a username.

The pattern across all three is the referral. A commenter on r/techsales who says they work in go to market at one of the two labs wrote that you need someone who will advocate internally, not just submit a CV, that hiring had shifted to a short list of feeder companies, naming AWS, Google, Meta, Databricks, Snowflake, Retool and Salesforce, and that six or seven former colleagues they referred got no interview. On r/HENRYUK in October 2026 the accounts were 10 to 13 interview rounds, a referral described as close to a necessity, and one person who waited a year while the role sat on hold.
The accounts that cut against it matter as much. One r/techsales commenter applied to OpenAI cold, got an interview, and went out at the hiring manager screen. On r/HENRYUK one reached a third round at Anthropic from the open website form before the role was filled. On r/InterviewStories a reply laid out the non technical sequence as recruiter screen, hiring manager chat, a loop, and sometimes a take home or case, and an applicant in September 2026 reported five days of silence after the recruiter screen.
One claim contradicts the postings, so it is labelled here. A commenter wrote that the two labs pay no commission and the job is purely a stock option play. Anthropic’s Business Development Representative posting states the printed range is on target earnings including the commission target, and OpenAI tags several seller roles Offers Commission. The listing text wins; the claim is unverified. Where the accounts agree with the postings is the experience bar: the listings ask for two or more years, and the accounts say the practical bar is higher.
How do you apply without wasting a month?
Read the feed, not the listicle. The six boards above are public and carry the posting date, so you can see that the Perplexity BDR listing first published on 22 January is nine months old while an OpenAI Account Associate seat in Dublin went up on 24 September. Apply to the junior titles that match your years, read the printed range before the first call, and spend the saved time finding one person at the company who will say your name in a meeting, which is the single thing every thread agreed on.
If you do not have the two years yet, the labs are the wrong first door. The free public board at getaiwork.com/board/ carried 1,684 screened live listings on 20 October 2026 per the stats page, 222 of them tagged beginner and 521 remote, and the no experience page sorts the ones that genuinely ask for none. For the labs with a contractor route beside the full time board, the Cohere careers page walks through one. And if you want the short answer on which route fits you, the match quiz takes two minutes and asks about experience, not money.
Frequently asked questions
Do AI sales jobs require a technical background?
Not on the postings read 21 October 2026. The junior titles at OpenAI, Anthropic, Cohere and Perplexity ask for prior sales, finance or consulting experience and comfort discussing APIs at a high level, not a degree in computer science. Solutions engineer and sales engineer roles are the technical ones and were excluded from the count.
Which AI company had the most sales openings on 21 October 2026?
Anthropic, with 74 titles on a board of 675, ahead of OpenAI with 59 on a board of 808. Cohere had 18, Perplexity 8, xAI 5 and Scale AI 4, by the same title rule.
Are there AI sales jobs in India on these boards?
Four on 21 October 2026: three OpenAI Account Director listings in Delhi or remote in India, and one Anthropic Enterprise Account Executive for banking in Mumbai. All are senior and none prints a pay range. ElevenLabs listed an Account Manager and a mid market Account Executive for India the same week.
Why do some AI sales listings show a salary and others do not?
California Labor Code section 432.3 and similar state laws require the pay scale on postings for seats that can be filled in that state. Listings for Delhi, Singapore, Tokyo, Dublin and London sit outside those laws and usually print nothing.
What does on target earnings mean on an AI sales posting?
Base salary plus the commission you would receive at full quota. Anthropic’s postings say their sales ranges are on target earnings, so the base is below the printed floor and the top of the range assumes quota is hit. Nothing about it is guaranteed.
Is the getAIwork board a place to find AI sales jobs?
It is a free public board with no signup that screens listings from public sources, 1,684 live on 20 October 2026. It leans toward AI training platforms, junior roles and freelance work rather than enterprise seller seats, which live on the companies’ own boards linked above.
