AI analyst jobs are three different jobs sharing one title: business and data analysts who use or deploy AI, contract analysts who train and grade AI models, and safety analysts who police misuse. On 27 October 2026, 56 analyst postings on the getAIwork board and the Anthropic and OpenAI boards split 12, 20 and 15, plus 9 back office roles.

What does an AI analyst actually do?
It depends entirely on who wrote the advert, which is an annoying answer and also the only honest one. The pages that rank for this search treat AI analyst as one career with one salary. Read the duties line of real postings and you find three jobs that would not even interview the same person.
The first is the analyst inside an ordinary business who uses AI or brings it in. A UK housing group’s AI Analyst listing on our board sits in an IT and transformation team and talks about helping identify, develop and deliver AI powered solutions. That is a business analyst job with a new toolkit. The second is the AI training analyst: a contract on a platform such as micro1 or Mercor where your field supplies the title and the work is grading or writing for a model. The third is the safety or enforcement analyst at an AI lab, who reads real model conversations and decides whether they break the usage policy.
| Meaning | What the duties say | Who posts it | Listed pay, as listed 27 October 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Analyst who uses or deploys AI | Reporting, dashboards, finding where AI fits a business process | Ordinary employers and AI companies | Harvey CX Data Analyst: $112,000 to $168,000 a year |
| AI training analyst | Grade model answers, write test prompts, check data for a client’s model | micro1, Mercor, Neon, Welo Data | micro1 Defense Analyst: $40 to $80 an hour |
| Safety or enforcement analyst | Review flagged model use, enforce the usage policy, write case files | Anthropic, OpenAI, xAI | Anthropic Safeguards Enforcement Analyst, Bio Harms: $245,000 to $285,000 a year |
Pay in that table is copied from each posting on the day it was read. It covers one posting each, in the United States, and rates change; nothing here is a forecast of what anyone will be offered.
Which analyst job is this listing?

This sorts a listing by its stated duties only. It says nothing about pay or your chances.
How many AI analyst jobs are open, and which kind?
We counted rather than guessed. On 27 October 2026 the free getAIwork board held 1,755 live listings, the same total its public stats file shows for 26 October. 32 of those titles contain the word analyst. Each was sorted by what its summary says the work is, not by the title, because the title is exactly the part that misleads.
The same rule was run on two vendor boards read through their own job feeds the same morning: Anthropic’s Greenhouse board, with 679 postings, and OpenAI’s Ashby board, with 795. Between them they carried 24 analyst titles.
| Source, read 27 October 2026 | Uses or deploys AI | AI training analyst | Safety or enforcement | Back office at an AI lab |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| getAIwork board, 32 analyst titles | 12 | 20 | 0 | 0 |
| Anthropic, 17 analyst titles | 0 | 0 | 11 | 6 |
| OpenAI, 7 analyst titles | 0 | 0 | 4 | 3 |
| Total, 56 | 12 | 20 | 15 | 9 |
Two things jump out. First, the labs post almost no analyst jobs about analysing data with AI; their analysts either police the product or run the finance, payroll and Salesforce plumbing. The back office column is honest work, but it is not AI work, whatever the logo on the payslip. Second, the largest group of all is training contracts, where analyst is a borrowed word. Only three listings on the whole board were literally titled AI analyst or AI product analyst, and all three were UK employer jobs of the first kind.

What do AI training analyst contracts ask for?
Mostly your existing field, plus patience. Of the 20 training contracts, 10 were on micro1, 8 on Mercor (3 of them for a client named Neon), 1 on Welo Data and 1 through ManpowerGroup. 17 were remote. The titles read like a civil service directory: Defense Analyst, Intelligence Analyst, Privacy Analyst, Imagery Analyst, Nonproliferation Analyst.
The duties are where the word analyst changes meaning. The micro1 Defense Analyst posting describes evaluating scenarios and applying defense policy knowledge to support AI training, listed at $40 to $80 an hour on 27 October 2026. Mercor’s Nonproliferation Analyst contract, as summarised on our board, involves writing single turn prompts that test how frontier models handle nuclear safeguards questions. Mercor’s data analyst and spreadsheet contract was listed at $50 to $60 an hour and, charmingly, requires your own MacBook.
Levels spread evenly: 6 beginner, 7 intermediate and 7 advanced on the board’s own screening. These are independent contracts paid per hour of project work, not salaried posts, and the hours stop when the project does. If you are weighing the two big platforms here, our Mercor and micro1 comparison sets their onboarding side by side, and the TELUS Online Data Analyst page covers the oldest role to use the word, which is search evaluation rather than analysis.

What do AI safety and enforcement analysts do?
They are the closest thing an AI lab has to a trust and safety desk, and they are not junior roles. Anthropic listed 10 Safeguards Enforcement Analyst postings, one per harm area such as bio harms, child safety, cyber harm and account takeover, plus an Enforcement Analyst, Agentic Alignment role first published on 24 October 2026. Its duties include reviewing transcripts, tool use traces and code for harmful or unexpected model behaviour, and making enforcement decisions under the company’s Usage Policy.
Two lines in those postings matter more than the pay. Eight of the 11 warn that the analyst may be exposed to explicit content of a sexual, violent or psychologically disturbing nature, and four mention a shared on call duty. The listed ranges on 27 October 2026 ran from $230,000 to $330,000 a year across the 11 Anthropic safety analyst postings, all based in US offices.
OpenAI’s four safety analyst postings sit in its User Safety and Risk Operations team. The Global Response weekend shift analyst asks for 5 or more years in trust and safety, content moderation, investigations or fraud, listed at $189,000 to $210,000 a year, while the Operations Analyst posting asks for 8 or more years. Our page on AI safety jobs counts the wider family, and AI governance jobs covers the policy side, which is where an AI policy analyst title usually lives.

What do people applying for analyst contracts report?
The lab postings do not attract much public chatter, but the training contracts do. We read about 60 comments across four micro1 threads on Reddit from August to October 2026, through a read only fetcher. These are what people report, paraphrased, not verified outcomes and not what the platform pays.
In an October 2026 r/micro1_ai thread about one writing and news contract, a hired applicant said they applied on 2 October and were hired on 5 October, then were blocked from tasking for weeks by a technical fault on the client’s side. Others in the same thread said their status flipped between hiring manager review and did not qualify, one for two months. A commenter who described 40 years in broadcast news said a short client test rejected them anyway.
A second October thread asked about four pending roles including Imagery Analyst. A micro1 community manager replied that hiring manager review can take up to 30 days, and one commenter said they had seen a selection arrive after 45. In an August 2026 post, a former reporter described nine months on the platform, moving from a pilot project to two quality assurance teams after learning what rubrics and criteria were.
The sharpest complaint came from an October 2026 r/AiTraining_Annotation thread about a video review project, not an analyst title: posters said the hourly rate depended on hitting a target of 360 tasks an hour, with quality pauses and contradictory reviewer feedback. The accounts agree with the listings on one point: the title says analyst, the work is evaluation. Where they differ is time, since the listings never mention a month of waiting.
Can you get an AI analyst job without experience or from India?
The employer and lab versions, rarely. None of the 12 employer analyst jobs on the board was marked beginner, and the OpenAI safety postings ask for 5 to 8 years. One India listing stood out: MSD’s Specialist, Business Analyst for AI content creation, an employed role with no pay shown.
The training contracts are the realistic door. 6 of the 20 were marked beginner and 17 were remote, though remote does not always mean open to every country, so check each posting’s location line. Our guide to AI training jobs that take beginners goes platform by platform. Be wary of the course that sells an AI analyst certificate: none of the 56 postings asked for one.
Every listing in this count can be read for free on the getAIwork work board, which is public with no signup and shows pay only as each source posts it. If you would like a pointer first, the match quiz suggests which kind of analyst work suits your background.
Frequently asked questions
Is an AI analyst the same as a data analyst?
Sometimes. Of 56 analyst postings read on 27 October 2026, 12 were business or data analyst jobs that use or deploy AI. The other 44 were training contracts, safety roles or back office jobs at AI labs.
Do AI analyst jobs need coding?
Not usually for training contracts, which ask for your field’s knowledge. Employer data analyst roles often ask for SQL or a BI tool, and Anthropic’s agentic enforcement posting mentions analysing code.
Are AI analyst jobs remote?
The training contracts mostly are: 17 of 20 on the getAIwork board on 27 October 2026 were remote. The 15 lab safety analyst postings named US offices such as San Francisco, New York and Washington.
What is a safeguards enforcement analyst?
It is Anthropic’s title for analysts who review flagged use of its models and enforce the Usage Policy in one harm area, such as bio harms or child safety. Eleven such analyst postings were open on 27 October 2026.
Is an AI analyst certificate worth buying?
None of the 56 analyst postings read on 27 October 2026 asked for an AI analyst certificate. They asked for field experience, trust and safety years, or a pass on the platform’s own screening.
How long does micro1 take to answer an analyst application?
A micro1 community manager wrote on Reddit in October 2026 that hiring manager review can take up to 30 days. Applicants in the same threads reported anything from three days to two months.
